Dear Representative,
Sexual harassment and sexual assault are unavoidable subjects in our current political atmosphere. Large scale efforts such as Me Too and Times Up exposed the ugly underbelly of our society, which has allowed abuse to persist at the cost of the lives and legacies of victimized populations. Their success is their ability to walk the line between collaboration with and challenge to existing institutions. We understand that there cannot be systemic change without a willingness to engage with the system itself.
We write to you to join our voices with the huddled masses, with the survivors, with the pioneers who have initiated necessary dialogue about sexual violence. Informed dialogue is a crucial act of resistance in a climate where compromise is condemned by both ends of the political spectrum. We ask you to lead with humility by listening to the leaders of organizations like those highlighted in this pamphlet. In doing so, you validate their stories and those of the communities they represent. Please use your platform to empower victims and hold accountable victimizers.
As the next generation of your constituency, we expect our representation to reflect our personal commitment to advocate for victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Thank You,
Mad Chase and Eliza Pillsbury
